Waterloo Road renovation and extension
1850s, Georgian terrace house that is a protected
structure. The dwelling has a basement level over
upper ground, first and second floors.
Mesh Architects were engaged for the renovation and extension, which consists of restoration to key historical internal
features, a new internal layout to all
levels within the dwelling. A new subtle, contemporary architectural rear basement extension of 32m.sq and a
8m.sq extension at upper ground entrance level to an existing pitched roof return completes this
insightful approach to the project. The large rear garden has a combination of hard and soft landscaping and a double car garage is accessed from Heytesbury Lane to the rear of Waterloo Road.
A sensitve approach was taken to the restoration of the ornate plasterwork to the cornices and centre pieces throughout the dwelling. Re-introduction of breathable hydraulic lime render to some of the external facade was applied. A new natural slate roof renovation was also carried out along with installation of new chimney linings.
The new rear extension design allows the formation of a mid sized internal courtyard which is accessed from the basements new rear "family room" and the natural light filled new kitchen extension. The extension has two sets of large bi-folding doors that transform the internal space to function with the large rear patio and mid sized internal courtyard
The project encorporates sustainable technology with internal breathable insulation to the existing walls, a rainwater harvesting tank allow for grey water recycling.
